Why does a coffee shop do haunted stuff?
Cellblock Sips & Bakery has the unique advantage of being located in a historic haunted jailhouse. Since September 2019, when we first decided to make this jailhouse our bakery home, to the present, we have daily experiences with our many in-house spirits. Quite a change for being non-believers at the beginning. Spirits reside here both on the 1st floor of the building and the 2nd floor jail cells. Over time, more seem to have come to join the party. This has inspired us to learn about the history of not only our building, but our surrounding town. Dr. Caroline Crimm of Texas State Historical Association is our mentor and inspiration.
What is a cemetery crawl?
History with Mystery! We go to historic Oakwood Cemetery and visit known hot spots with the intent to end at dusk. We will explore with a variety of paranormal devices to see who communicates with us. In addition to the exploration, we also share history and information relevant to the area and people. We have had many encounters with the spirits and the guardian of the cemetery. During the cemetery crawls we always act with respect and never take anything away from any visit, except experiences and memories.

If requested, we may go to the TDCJ Captain Joe Byrd Cemetery instead of Oakwood Cemetery. However, the visit there will start and end before dusk. There are additional dangers in the Prison Cemetery, such as collapsing coffins and less friendly entities.

Note: We do NOT go to Martha's Chapel cemetery on "Demon Road". Having been popularized too much by social media, Martha's chapel has been on the receiving end of too much vandalism by visitors through the years. The living families of the deceased have requested privacy and respect for their loved ones. We respect their wishes.
What is the Haunted Huntsville Experience?
We have developed several different ways for non-paranormal teams to enjoy the spooky.
Paranormal teams go HERE.
1) We provide a Guided Paranormal (after-hours) Experience within the building. We will spend 2.5 to 3 hours sharing experiences and stories all the while inviting our residents to participate. The ghostly participation is through the use of paranormal equipment such as lights, EMF meters, Spirit Box and other varied ghost hunting equipment.

2) We provide a Cemetery Crawl experience at historic Oakwood Cemetery, the burial place of General Sam Houston.

3) We can coordinate with the Cellblock Specters to enable you to join an extended 4-hour late night investigation. Paranormal equipment is provided. This can be coordinated with the cemetery crawl.

The experience will start and end at the Cellblock Sips & Bakery located on the first floor of the historic haunted decommissioned Walker County Jail. Here you may order one of our 100+ hand-crafted drinks
or a snack before the experience begins.
Is the experience family friendly?
Participants must be 18 years or older for all activities which require a liability waiver. No exception will be made.
The experiences are not designed for young children.
Children 17 years & younger may not participate in any activity which requires a liability waiver. In Texas, a parent cannot effectively sign a liability waiver for a minor child. Therefore, no minors may participate in our Haunted Experiences.
Will it be scary?
Nothing will jump out at you. However, we will be talking about spooky topics which could give you a good shiver.
What happens if it rains?
In the case of active rain, cemetery crawls WILL be canceled. We don't want to risk slipping on uneven or muddy ground.

If the rain has passed and the ground is still muddy, cemetery crawls will still be canceled. Muddy cemeteries are not enjoyable.

Building experiences are not affected by rain. If anything, a good thunderstorm adds energy to the experience.
What are the other reasons an experience was canceled?
Tours may also be cancelled for the following reasons: unexpected emergencies, 3 or less tickets sold before the tour, and other extreme acts of nature. We make every effort to avoid cancellations. In the event of cancellations, we will make every effort to notify you as soon as the decision is made. Refunds or credit will be given for experiences canceled by Haunted Huntsville.
Will I see a ghost?
There are no guarantees that you will see a ghost. They do not perform on a schedule. However, much of Huntsville is known to be haunted. We have had many experiences with being contacted/touched by spirits or activity registered on paranormal equipment.
Will I catch something in my pictures?
It is not guaranteed, but be prepared to take pictures or video to see if you catch anything unusual. If you do, we would love for you to share images with us at Haunted.Huntsville.TX@gmail.com. We will load them to our gallery with credit, unless anonymity is requested.
I don't believe in ghosts
We respect that. You don't need to believe in ghosts to enjoy this historical haunted experience but there may be believers in your group. Please respect their beliefs and enjoyment during your time together. We will give you a unique experience to remember, with stories about the long history of this old Texas town. Much has happened here. You will walk the same paths that Sam Houston and other historical figures have traveled.
What time should I arrive?
The experiences will depart from the Cellblock Sips & Bakery at the designated time. Arrive about 30 minutes early to ensure you can order any snacks or drinks you may want to take with you before departure.

Additionally, the guide will need to share information and may pass out loaner paranormal equipment for use during the event.
How much does an experience cost?
It depends on what you're interested in. See details HERE.

All experiences require the following:
- All guests must sign a release waiver as part of the booking process or in paper form, before departing.
- Children 17 years & younger may not participate. In Texas, a parent cannot effectively sign a liability waiver for a minor child. Therefore, no minors may participate in our Haunted Experiences.
